HTC U Ultra, the unlocked variant of the handset will now be available for purchase in the U.S. HTC's online store lists the smartphone at a price of $749 to get the unlocked model.
Previously, the unlocked variant of the HTC U Ultra was available for purchase in Europe and now for U.S consumers. The fact that the unlocked model of the smartphone has become available for purchase comes very close for the news that HTC already started shipping the pre-orders for the smartphone on Mar.9.
Going compatible with GSM networks which confirms that consumers in the U.S will be able to use the unlocked model of the HTC U Ultra easily on AT&T or T-Mobile.
"The unlocked HTC U Ultra is compatible with AT&T and T‑Mobile Networks," company says.
As the smartphone model does not offer support for CDMA networks, those on Verizon Wirless, U.S Cellular and Spring will be doing well to not buy the unlocked HTC U Ultra.
A GSM device deploys a SIM card to preserve the subscriber's data. This enables one to swap their service provider by sampling to insert a new SIM card into the handset. The CDMA device, alternatively, has an electronic serial number that is embedded into the handset. This calls for programming when swapping a network.
Therefore, as HTC confirms, if you wish to swap carriers, you can do with your unlocked HTC U Ultra, that's GSM compatible.
"You'll be able to switch carriers at will with the HTC U Ultra unlocked edition. Simply insert your activated AT&T, T-Mobile or other supported SIM to begin using your HTC U Ultra," company says.
Additionally, if you have an unlocked phone then it is quite easy while traveling abroad as you can switch to any local carrier easily by popping in a different SIM. Further this is also cost effective.
The 5.7-inch HTC U Ultra launched in January is available in all three color options from the company.
At a price of $749, handsets are available in Sapphire Blue, Ice White or Brilliant Black. This price is for the 64GB variant of the HTC U Ultra. The 128 GB option of the smartphone is not yet listed on the website.
Operating on a Snapdragon 821 CPU, the smartphone gives an expandable memory option as well.
If you are buying the unlocked HTC U Ultra directly from the company's website, you will get free UH OH Protection. This means that in the event the smartphone's screen gets cracked in the first year, the company will replace it for free. Additionally, the UH OH Protection also covers water damage in the first year.
HTC is also offering an exchange program where buyers can sent in their old HTC phone and get cash back in return.
