In the process of streamlining its services, Google is replacing Google Talk (Gmail Chat or GChat) with Hangouts on June 26. For many Google users, it's easier to start video conferences.
According to Google, people will be able to continue one-on-one chats, and it's time to rely on Hangouts through Gmail and the Hangouts site. Although people use instant message apps like Adium and Trillian, Google is diminishing its support for an industry standard chat system known as XMPP, that most instant programs rely on.
A spokesman of Trillian stated that the writing appears to be on the wall for interoperability substitute instant messenger apps.
"This is unfortunate: Google was unique as the operators of a federated and open instant messaging network boasting significant market share, and we are always disappointed to see the industry move in the direction of walled gardens," Spokesman says.

If you are worried about Google's few messaging options, know that there's still the Allo secure messenger and Google Voice.
First released in 2013, legacy apps like Google Talk for Android, will also stop functioning.
Some other changes also include upgrades to the Android Messages app to handle text messages for Google-powered mobile phones, instead of the Hangouts app.
